Learning from Home - Message to Students and Parents

Posted: April 6, 2020

Good morning students and parents,

I hope this message finds you safe and well. Even though we have not spoken nor seen each other in a few weeks, please know that I miss you and I have been thinking about you during this difficult time. I wish we could all return to school but unfortunately, that is not possible. Therefore, we must work together to find new and different ways of communicating that will allow teachers to offer you the opportunity to continue learning from home. Parents need not stress; we do not want to overwhelm anyone.

You will find a new tab titled “Learning from Home” on our Dr. Losier Middle School Web site:  http://drlosier.nbed.nb.ca/. By opening this tab, you will find our school’s plan for continued learning from home as well as information and activities for continued Wellness. As time progresses, more information and activities could be added in this tab.

In the weeks to come, I will be posting suggested activities related to our curriculums on this teacher page. My plan is to post on Mondays and give out materials for the week.

One of the tools that I will be using in Math is an online Math program called “Dreambox”. This program is designed to keep students’ math skills current and at grade level. Parents are asked to send me an email at danielle.manuel@nbed.nb.ca . This will allow me to respond with your child’s Login and User Name for this online Math program.  Students can then follow the link to access Dreambox:   https://play.dreambox.com/login/knjs/aaj2.  Also, if your child has a tablet or an Ipad, there is a free App they can download in the App store.

I will also suggest Science activities for students. Some activities will allow you to involve younger siblings at home or the whole family if you so desire.

My students know that I am not a “techy” person. This is new for all of us and it will definitely be a learning curve for me as well. There will be “bumps in the road” but know that I will do all that I can to help and support you in all activities that you do. We will have to be patient and we will have to work together. I can be reached at danielle.manuel@nbed.nb.ca if you have any questions or need help. Please feel free to leave me a message at any time and I will get back to you. If you prefer a phone call, please let me know in the email and give me a phone number where you can be reached.

I look forward to hearing from you, and rest assured that I will be there to help and support you throughout this new process.

Be well and stay safe!!

Mrs. Manuel
