Learning From Home FILA Week Six

The next two weeks we will be working on a small historical research project. The goal is to research an historical event or a person and produce a brief article that provides a short paragraph and a few facts about your topic and that is visually appealing. I would like students to research a topic that is of interest to them, so find something you would like to learn more about or something that is important to you and go for it. 

Personally, I saw in the news a few weeks ago that a new Heritage Minute was produced celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands, an event in which Canada played a large role. This inspired my decision to research other battles Canada fought throughout the Second World War and eventually I decided to do my historical article on J-jour: la plage Juno.

I have created an exemplar for students to see the finished project. 

Basic Outline:

Just One Paragraph (5-7 sentences)

3-5 facts (point form)

Publish 1 page (not 5 different powerpoint slides ) however you like, just make it visually interesting (Use computer, Draw by hand and take a picture, etc...) 

 

Week 1 : I am asking students to research and write the draft copy of the paragraph for this article. There is a guide (Historical Paragraph - Guide) attached for students to follow on how to research and write/revise/correct a paragraph.  

As outlined in the guide, I would like students to submit the finished draft of just their paragraph so that we can make corrections and provide feedback. You can send a word document, just copy and paste to the e-mail directly or take a photo with your phone of your handwritten work. Whatever works for you.

I will provide further details on how we might collect the published copies at a later date.
