Explanation of Project

Our Language Arts classes have been invited to participate in the Spotlight on Indigenous People Project at the upcoming Pow Wow, Mawi’omi, at James M. Hill Friday, Feb. 16. Student projects will be displayed as we celebrate our Indigenous Peoples’ contributions to society.

 Last week, students began a research based literacy project in which they have chosen an Indigenous person who is a positive role model.  This person may also be from student’s family or community.  Students spent three days in the lab researching basic information on this person's life- family, career, and achievements.  They also collected pictures and quotes/articles.   This is a min-project intended to be completed in class.

This photo essay is to be placed on Bristol board. (Balance of pictures and information.) Students have been given the deadline to bring in all their materials for Wednesday, Feb. 14.  Each student also received a project guideline during their research time. Projects will be assembled in class on Wednesday.  Should they need to print off pictures at school, we can do so in black and white. If they want colored photos, borders, background paper, etc. to jazz up the board, students should bring it in.

Once completed, we will view and learn from each other’s projects. There will NOT be a presentation to the class. Evaluating each other’s projects will provide a more interactive learning experience.
