Rules for ASD-N Flag Football
- 7 vs. 7
- The offense will start play on their own 5 yard line and have 3 plays to score or to cross half field to get another 3 downs. Once a team crosses half they have 3 downs to score. If a team does not score or runs out of downs the ball will change possession to the other team who will start play again from their own 5 yard line
- To begin play the ball must be snapped by the center from the line of scrimmage to the quarterback. The quarterback can be up close or further away in a "shotgun" formation.
- There is a 1 yard neutral zone from the line of scrimmage that the defense cannot line-up in prior to the snap
- All possession changes with the exception of interceptions will begin on the 5 yard line
- Any defensive penalty will result in 3 new downs for the offensive team. Offensive penalties will result in a loss of yards
- "No Run Zones" are located 5 yards from the endzone. When a play begins within this area the ball must be passed and cannot the offensive team cannot run the ball
- The quarterback cannot run the ball past the line of scrimmage, they must throw the ball forward, hand it off for a run or lateral the ball behind them to a teammate. The quarterback however may receive the ball back resulting from a legal forward pass or a lateral from a teammate after initially giving the ball up. The quarterback has 7 seconds to throw, hand-off or lateral the ball. If this does not occur then the offensive team shall be assessed a penalty.
- Once the ball crosses the line of scrimmage it can no longer be handed off or lateraled to a teammate.
- If an offensive penalty occurs while the offensive team is in the no run zone and they are moved back outside of the no run zone, they must still pass the ball on upcoming downs.
- The offensive team has 20 seconds to hike the ball and put it into play. The referee should call out 10 seconds when there is 10 seconds remaining.
- A touchdown is worth 6 points. A team scoring a touchdown can go for 1 or 2 points. A team going for 1 will start at the 5 yard line but the ball must be passed. A team going for 2 will start at the 10 yard line but they can run or pass the ball
- Defensive players on the field can rush from anywhere once the ball has been handed off or lateralled by the offensive team. The team can have as many rushers as they wish, however to rush the quarterback on the snap they must be at least 7 yards back from the line of scrimmage. The offensive team cannot block or impede a rushers progress
- Flags must be worn on the back hips and cannot be tucked, wrapped etc. Defense can pull one or two flags of an offensive player. Offensive players cannot stiff arm, shield or guard flags in any way, a penalty shall result if they do
