The file is similar but not identical to the test which will be given in class tomorrow. There will be a vocabulary quiz as well and some questions will carry additional instructions such as determining whether the trinagle is obtuse or acute if it is not a right triangle. Most questions will indicate that you must draw a diagram if possible.

Last week students worked on converting fractions to decimals and percents and changing each to one of the others. Students also should understand that each of these forms are equal to one another. ( For example: 1/2 = 0.5 = 50%) Students can use the textbook sections 3.1 and 3.2 to review this information This week students will be adding and subtracting decimals. (Section 3.3) and multiplying and dividing decimals (3.4 and 3.5).     Students may need to review multiplying numbers and dividing numbers using online games, videos or practice. Extra help will be available on Tuesday for those that wish to attend.

This week students will explore Pythagorean Theorem. a2 + b2 = c2 This theorem helps to prove that a triangle is a right triangle and can be used to find the length of any line in the triangle if you know the other two. In the textbook students can use sections 1.5 to 1.7 to develop their understanding Pythagorean theorem. We spent the last week and a half learning about squared numbers and square roots. To be successful students need to remember how to square a number: which is done by multiplying a number by itself. So 4 squared is 42=4 x 4= 16.) Students also need to find the square root of a number for example the square root of 16 is 4.

Students continue to work on solving algebra equations using models and then without models. This outcome is represented in teh textbook in sections 6.1 to 6.5. Students will be tested on this outcome early next week (Tuesday). Understanding terminolgy is very important and students should review the key terms for each unit frequently.

Students will be getting their "unit test" back on Monday. Materials required this week in math. Graph paper, Textbook, Notebook, Pencils and erasers, and a ruler This week students will be focusing on a new outcome. Students will be working with patterns and developing an expression which will represent the pattern. For example the pattern:3, 5, 7, 9 ,11, 13 Can be represented by the expression 2n+3. Students will also graph these relations. This outcome is found in the text in Sections 1.3 to 1.6.  There will be a test on these skiills early next week (Tuesday or Wednesday).

This week students will go over the mid unit quiz ( most did well.) Students who struggled with a concept have been asked to stay for activity period on Tuesday for additional help. The test for these concepts will be on Thursday.Tuesday: PAGE 269: Questions 2, 3, 4Wednesday: Page 273: Questions 1, 2, 5, 6Thursday: Outcome Test (will include questions about integers as well.)Friday: Probablity This outcome only takes a few lessons to complete so there will be a test next week on Probability.

Grade 7F is working on Divisibility Rules. The rules can be found on page 12 of the text book. They can use their Mathletics site to practice the skills for this unit at home as well as at school occasionally.A quiz will occur very early next week. Grade 8 M is working on Understanding Graphs this includes understanding what various graphs are best for and therefore what certain graphs are not very good at displaying. Near the beginning of Unit 7 there is a very helpful chart and other notes which can help explain these concepts. Students will continue to work on this for the next few classes. They can use their Mathletics site to practice the skills for this unit at home as well as at school occasionally. If your child wants help they are welcome to stay during activity period Tuesday or Thursday.

Grade 8 is off to a great start we have started with multiplying and dividing integers. So far there has been no homework as students have been able to complete assigned questions in class. If you have any questions or concern please e-mail or call. Extra help: If you want/ need  it it is available on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday (most of the time) during activity period. If for some reason this is not possible I can meet with at lunch to assist you. If you are struggling with a question get help right away since these types of difficulties are best solved sooner rather than later.

The grade 7 class is working on a practice test in class. We are going over each question in class one by one and students are expected to make corrections on the practice test. Students have been told before hand that some of the questions on the final test will come directly from this practice test. Some numbers will be changed but the expectations of the question will remain the same as will the wording. The only real change will be an additional box on the test that asks the students to verify their answer to the question. We have verified our answers for every question in class and this will be expected during the test as well. Students will bring their practice test home with them tomorrow (Thursday). I strongly recommend that they work out some of the questions and compare their answer to the "corrected" version that they should have from our classwork. I will collect the "Practice Test" at the start of class Friday and will use it as part of their classwork/homework grade. If you have any questions please contact me.
