Social Studies test is tomorrow. Review notes (two sheets in Duo-Tangs).

I hope that things are going well. I know it isn't an ideal situation. Do what you can. I understand that you may not be able to complete everything. Put your best effort into it and we can talk about the rest when we return to in-class work.

6C Humanities

Lessons for “At Home Learning”, January 11 to 21

The lessons and other materials that are provided are to be completed as follows:

1)      An “Every-Day Edit” each day.

2)      There will be a Grammar Lesson each day. All parts must be completed by January 21.

3)      The Social Studies lessons (Indigenous People of Canada assignments) will be introduced every-other-day. Complete them all by January 21.

4)      Reading time is scheduled for each afternoon. The Story Elements exercises are to be read and completed, one each day, in this time.

èExpectations for students:

The lessons and exercises are to be completed to the best of your ability by the end of the next two weeks (January 21). These do count and will be part of your evaluation for the next report card. We will be continuing to new materials after this.

***Participation, whether at home, online, or in class, is compulsory. For students who are going to be online, you are expected to join me and your participating classmates on TEAMS at the scheduled time. I will be presenting a mini lesson each day, explaining the assignments, and answering questions about the assignments during that time. If you are having problems completing the assignments online (for example: you can’t edit a document and put in your answers), you can open a Word Document and record them there or use a scribbler or loose-leaf and turn these into me (take a picture and submit it or bring them into class when we return to school).

Assignments for each day will be posted on 6C Humanities TEAMS site.

Hi,

I want you to be aware that we will be preparing report cards at the end of this month. I will need your work to prepare these.

If you are working online, PLEASE SEND IN YOUR WORK as you complete it (submit through TEAMS or send me an email). Take a picture of your work and send it if you can't send a document. If you have packages at home that were prepared at the school for you, PLEASE RETURN THEM ON MONDAY OR TUESDAY when you come in to pick up the new package of assignments. I will need your LANGUAGE ARTS DUOTANG and your WRITER'S NOTEBOOK. Make sure all assignments in them are completed! Leave the DuoTang and notebook at the school and just take the new assignments. I will be in on Tuesday to collect your completed work.

Have a good weekend! Stay safe and hope to see you next week!

To record that you have attended "At Home Learning" today, please log in to TEAMS and let me know that you are 'here' today. You will need to do this each day while we are working from home.

On Thursday, you worked on putting quotation marks in sentences. Remember, "Quotation marks go around spoken words and their punctuation." The second exercise is on the flip side of the page -> Punctuating Dialogue. example
The old man muttered, "The world ain't all it's cracked up to be."
Complete the rest of the exercise.
In your Writer's Notebook, work on your snapshot moment. Complete your first draft. If you have finished this, look at the "Snapshot Writing/Personal Narrative Must-Haves!" Look at each one and examine your story. Begin revising your draft and make sure you have completed all parts. You will need to write another copy on loose-leaf. This may take more time than what would normally be covered in one class. You can continue this work on Tuesday.

Hi everyone,

This is a brief note about work assignments in your DuoTangs.

As you know, the assignments that you put in your DuoTangs yesterday are for work that I plan to cover over the next week to week-and-a-half. I wanted to be sure that you had a paper copy of these items home with you to make things a bit easier. I will be posting a message here on my Teacher Page (and in TEAMS) on Sunday IF we are going to be learning from home. I will give details then as to what you will be expected to complete and any additional information that you may need for your assignments. If we are returning to in school learning on Monday, then be sure to bring your DuoTang and Writer's Notebook back to school with you. We will pick-up where we left off on Thursday.

Enjoy your weekend and Happy Halloween,

Mrs. Coughlan

This week, I am posting the graphic organizer for the Covid-19 Time Capsule Project. Keep a copy close and add information as you see it, hear it, or otherwise experience it. Have a paper copy in your home and get your family involved. Save it on your phone and record things while on the go. It is intended that you make a brief note as it happens so you don't forget.

Currents4Kids has a new article for you to read. Don't forget to do the two sets of quiz questions and to write a response. I have reviewed your work and left some comments that you should be able to see. Read each day if you can. Writing topics are still available from the Writing Choice Boards posted previously. There are assignments for poetry on Teams for you to try. I have set this up as a way to get you familiar with the Teams site. If you are having problems with this, don't worry. We will do more with it in the fall.

Stay safe,

Mrs. C.

This week, I am going to introduce you to a project. The details are given below. As part of the project, I am going to have you begin reading some articles from "Currents4Kids". (Some of you may have already completed some of these.) The articles are:

Fighting A New Virus, Feb 7

How to Squash a Pandemic, March 20

Suds Up, March 27

Keep Your Distance, April 2

Leading By Example, April 10

Cooking For A Crowd, May 15

You are asked to do one this week and another next week. You may complete them all if you want.

The Writing Choice Board Options are available from previous posts.

The project information will be added to my Teams assignments, so you may access it there too.

Have a good week and stay safe!

May 25th

We are getting close to the end of this school year! You have only a few more weeks to try out the Teams Site. It is strongly recommended that you do this. It is something that we teachers believe will be a necessary part of our teaching in the coming school year. It is to your benefit to try to use this now and become familiar with it before it is something that you must know and use daily. It is OK to make mistakes. That leads to learning.

“A mistake is just a first attempt at doing something right!”

I am learning this now too, and I need students to participate and give feedback when I do something wrong or post something that is not clear. This helps me and helps you.

I have posted on Teams three small assignments: this weeks Writing Choice Board, a video to watch and respond to, and another short poetry assignment. None of these will take very long to do but will help you learn how to navigate through this site.

You should continue to read each day and to complete one of the Currents4Kids assignments (read the article, answer the “on the line” quiz, “between the lines” quiz, and response question).

SOMETHING NEW AND EXCITING COMING NEXT WEEK!

We are working on a fun final project that we will want everyone to do. We think it is something that everyone will want to do! Stay tuned for details next Monday.

Remember that when you complete assignments on Teams, they are automatically saved and available for me to see. If you are completing the assignments for Currents4Kids, the results and your responses are there for me to see. If you are writing a choice from the Writing Choice Board off the Teams site, send your work to my teacher email as a document or a picture.

Have a good week and stay safe!

I have been reading through your work on the Currents4Kids website. Many of you have not yet tried any of these and you really should. The articles are about many different topics, they are fairly easy to read, the quizzes are multiple choice, and there is a choice for the response questions (maybe three questions presented and you only have to answer one).

There are two types of quizzes - do both! ("on the line" questions, and "between the lines" questions).

Please do answer the response question! Remember to explain what you are thinking

Stay safe.

Hi,

It seems that some of you are having problems accessing your student email and Teams. If you know what your username and password are and are still having problems, the fastest and most direct way to resolve this is to contact the IT staff. You can find out how by going to the following:

http://asd-n.nbed.nb.ca/feature/reminder-student-password-reset-instruct...

There is a number for you to use to send a text message.

If you don't know (or don't remember) your username and password, you can contact me. I have this information and can send it to you.

***Please note: If you have to have changes made with your username and/or password, you must let me know. I will need to make these changes in the Teams site before you will be able to access it.

These are some of the problems that we expected might happen as we try something new. Sorry for the inconvenience but it's best to get these situations fixed now.

Enjoy this beautiful day.

Mrs. C.

IMPORTANT FOR ALL STUDENTS IN GRADE 6K, 6T and 7C

Please log in to your school email account this week.

We are moving to TEAMS for all weekly assignments except for Currents4Kids.

Each of you has been assigned to a CLASS TEAM!

You will find your invitation in your email.

To login to your email you need your school username and the password you would have used to login to a computer at school. If you have forgotten your username or password please send a message to me by any email address you can access or by asking your teacher contact when they get in touch this week.

To get into your email: Google "office.com" or click the link: https://www.office.com/

Choose the "Outlook" icon

Enter your username followed by @nbss.nbed.nb.ca

Example: WHOAMI12345@nbss.nbed.nb.ca

You should see an invitation to your Team, which will have a link. You click to go to the Team. There is a Welcome message in Posts, which you can read, and you can look in the Class Notebook. Where we have placed some background information for you to read.

Although this unexpected school closure has caused us to implement these changes now, we have always planned to use Teams for teaching, assigning, and grading. This is a great opportunity to get use to technology that we will be using instructionally in the Fall. We are committed to ensuring that you can learn seamlessly in school and at home. No more lost papers, no trying to find your drafts, no more misplaced notebooks---everything you do can be kept in your personal notebook in your class Team. Even better, if you have a partner, you can both use your collaborative workspace to work on your project. You can actually work together from anywhere as long as you have internet. If your partner (or partners) is (are) absent, you can still work.

If you have ideas to share with the class, you can chat in posts to the whole class or if you are assigned group work you can chat with just your group members. If you want to share links or helpful resources, you can send me a message with what you found, and I can add it to our class content. As we grow and learn the capabilities of Teams together, I am sure we will continue to find ways that we can use Teams to make learning, sharing, and connecting easier.

I will be setting up a Class Meeting. You will receive an email about this giving you a date and time for the meeting. Check back in your school email for messages later this week.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you are not able to get to your email, cannot remember your password, or do not have an invitation to the class meeting (later this week).

Remember, we as teachers are all learning this with you and we will be making changes and asking you to provide feedback about how things are working for you. We will be asking what we can improve and how we can make this a great educational experience for all of you.

So, for this week:

1)       Log in to your email, navigate your way to Teams, check out the posts and assignments there

2)       Read and complete the quizzes and response questions for Currents4Kids

3)       Read each day

You may also select a topic from the previous Writing Choice Boards that have been posted and complete a writing assignment or two.

This seems like a lot but accessing the Teams site and the short assignment there are the only extras.

Send me an email if you have problems.

Stay safe,

Mrs. C.
