As you all know, the next two weeks, school learning will be online. DLMS will be running a temporary online schedule. I have already posted my homeroom 8H schedule on this teacher page and I will also be posting it on their Microsoft Teams Class. Please note the schedule consists of six core subjects in the morning and Physical Wellness/Independent reading in the afternoon.  The schedule has been shortened to six 30 minute classes in the morning with 2 screen breaks, Lunch break and then the afternoon reading and wellness schedule.

For the duration of online learning,  I will be using Microsoft Teams for the instruction delivery of Humanities.   Students should have received their online learning schedule and will be required to join in on a class call with me during their scheduled class. The call invitation will be sent to students through Teams and they will be able to find it through their Class Team and/or their Teams Calander. As for work in class and assignments, they will be distributed through the Assignments tab in their Class Team. Students will also be able to submit their work in the same Assignments tab. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send me an email at krista.hutchison@nbed.nb.ca

We will be changing things up this week.  Our learning opportunities will begin focusing on persuasive reading and writing.  We will be reading persuasive texts and also writing our own persuasive piece.  I've divided this unit up into weekly chunks, but in the persuasive writing documents, you will be able to see how this unit will look week by week.  Each week, I will include teaching slides (PowerPoint), a student workbook, and attached documents that are referenced in the slides.  Please make sure that you read the instructions on the slides/workbook.  Please email me at Krista.Hutchison@nbed.nb.ca if you have any questions.  I'd be happy to answer them.

Hi everyone,

It seems like it's been forever since we all last connected; I've missed our morning chats and great class conversations.  I know that this is a challenging time to get back into things having been away from work for a while, however, we are going to work together to look at some of the concepts we would have been discussing throughout the term.

As grade eight students, I understand that you have concerns about outcomes you may need as you move on to high school next fall.  However, with the personalized learning approach that we implemented this year, I am confident that we have more than covered the major elements of what is required in comprehension, and basic skills for a solid foundation.  Thus, anything we do for the remainder of the term will be a closer look at enhancing the concepts we have covered to date.

Mrs. Cabel and I have collaborated together and agree that we are going to start slow.  Dip our feet into home learning a bit.  It’s been a month since you’ve engaged in active learning, so we want to ease into it.  Once we do this, I will reevaluate what each of my student’s needs are moving forward.  I have created some more skills-based lesson and unit plans that will offer some excellent learning opportunities for you as we move through this process.  These units will be geared toward specific skills for the transition to high school.

I will be placing a One Week Plan on my Teacher Page every Monday. If there are additional ways to reach out that I implement through Instagram groups or social media sites, I will post on this page.  These plans are meant to run from Monday-Monday.  Although we have not been instructed to formally assess students at this time, we are permitted to give feedback as you move through the learning opportunities.  That means you can contact me through email if you need any help (krista.hutchison@nbed.nb.ca).  I’m sure you know that I would be more than happy to help anyone who needs it.  I would be happy just to hear from you!

Oh, and I wanted to let you all know, that we are in the works of having a "virtual" release party of our song.  I know many of you have been disappointed that we were not able to go ahead with our offical launch party in March.  However, I have been talking to Mr. Ryan and we are planning to do something instead in an online virtual way.  We still have the music CD's and we might use them as prizes for those who attend the watch party.  I will keep you posted.

Make sure you look after yourself and be kind to others.  Don't panic about the school work.  We will do what we can do.

I am super excited to be offering a Performing Arts EPOD starting October 30th to take us through until the new year.  I have twenty five students, all who have an interest in learning more about theatre, performing, stage management and musical productions.  I look forward to what our end of EPOD production might be.

All classes are working on an end production with the theme of Halloween.  We have incorproated dance, choral group pieces and musical routines as a class.  Any help with props or costumes would be greatly appreciated.  Please let your child know if you have anything that we might be able to use.
