8R has been embarking on a very significant unit for our community.  We are learning about the role that the North Shore (New Brunswick) Regiment played in the liberation of Europe during World War II.  The students are very interested in the topic.  We've learned a lot about DDay and over the next few days, will have a better understanding of the role that Miramichi soldiers played in the liberation of the Netherlands.

This week we have been focusing on two major skills: close reading of a non-fiction article and identification/expression of main idea using evidence from the text to support.  We have been tackling this through the topic of energy drinks.  Students have read material on the topic and are completing a close reading and main idea graphic organizer on an article, which is due on Friday.

Students have been given class time the last two days to work on a creative extension for the flash fiction piece, "Sentry".  These creative extensions are due on Tuesday.

Students have received rubrics and descriptive feedback on their snapshot moments.  By tomorrow, all students should have received their writing pieces and rubrics to bring home to their parents.  We are now shifting gears to focus on reading strategies for the next few weeks.

Most of the students have finished typing their snapshot moments.  If you have not completed your final draft, be sure to do so at home or see Mrs.Cabel regarding a time to access a computer.
