Hi everyone!
The primary digital platform that teachers are using this year is Teams. Please ask your child to show you their classes in Teams. In this class we have been experimenting with submitting assignments on Teams. If you would like to see your child's rubric for their recent writing piece, you can access this on Teams.

After finishing our writing unit, we've started a reading comprehension unit. In this unit, students will enhance their reading comprehension of short fiction and non-fiction texts. So far, we have reviewed the "Big 6" reading comprehension strategies (visualizing, connecting, questioning, inferring, determining importance, and synthesizing). Today, we learned how to do our first Article of the Week! This is a very important transitional skill for high school. Students will have time to work on their Article of the Week tomorrow - the due date is Friday.

Hi everyone!
We have spent the past week learning some very important skills to boost our writing. We learned about how conventional artistry can add to our writing and we brushed up on our sentence structure, specifically run on sentences. On Friday, students handed in their first Reading Responses on their SSR books. Drafts of snapshot moments are due Monday! We will revise and edit on Monday and then head to the computer lab on Tuesday to publish our snapshot moments. Great work, 7/8S!

Once again, we had a very productive week in ELA class! This week we switched gears from "reading like a writer" and exploring mentor texts, to beginning to journey on the writing process ourselves. Students chose the topics for their snapshot moments and have begun to use a graphic organizer for prewriting. Tomorrow, we will upload our first assignment to Teams!

We have learned some really important skills this week! As we embark on a new writing unit, students are learning how to "read like writers". They are investigating what other writers are doing within the genre. We have identified a number of different strategies that writers use to create imagery, suspense, to slow time down, and to enhance emotion. Today, the students were assigned an individual task where they are to close read a passage from a professional writer. Please see the assignment that is attached. This assignment is due on Monday! Great work, everyone!
