Grade 8s Win Knight Factor!

Hi everyone!

We are continuing to ease into home learning this week, so the work will look similar to last week's.  I've made one change - as a reading response, I've included an optional response to an editorial article.  If you have any issues accessing the attached documents, please email me at krista.cabel@nbed.nb.ca.

Hi everyone!

I want to start by saying that I miss you all very much.  I could not have imagined writing to you from a context such as this.  Our community’s health is paramount at this time and as a result, we are not able to visit our school, or as I like to think of it, our “home away from home”.

I understand that you and your families have many questions regarding your education within the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.  I can tell you that we have all been working very hard behind the scenes to create opportunities for students to continue their learning.

As grade eight students, you may have particular concerns with regards to building your skills for the transition to high school.  Rest assured that I feel very comfortable with what we have covered so far this year.  You have enhanced your creative writing skills, grammar skills, as well as your comprehension of both fiction and non-fiction texts. You do not have to worry.

We’re going to start slow.  Dip our feet into home learning a bit.  It’s been a month since you’ve engaged in active learning, so we want to ease into it.  Once we do this, I will reevaluate what each of my student’s needs are moving forward.  I have created some more skills-based lesson and unit plans that will offer some excellent learning opportunities for you as we move through this process.  These units will be geared toward specific skills for the transition to high school.

I will be placing a One Week Plan on my Teacher Page every Monday.  These plans are meant to run from Monday-Monday.  Although we have not been instructed to formally assess students at this time, we are permitted to give feedback as you move through the learning opportunities.  That means you can contact me through email if you need any help (krista.cabel@nbed.nb.ca).  I’m sure you know that I would be more than happy to help anyone who needs it.  I would be happy just to hear from you!  Seeing your faces every day, connecting with you, laughing with you, and just plain talking to you, brought me a lot of joy, and I truly miss that.

The Outsiders Online Full Text

Just in case you do not have your book home with you to finish the thematic assignment.

First of all, we miss you ;).

Secondly, we have been working on The Outsiders thematic piece assignment, which is attached in a note below.  I have spoken to the parents of all students who are affected and they are aware of how to contact me for questions/extra help.

As of now, you should be working on the thematic assignment.  When you finish, you can email it to me at krista.cabel@nbed.nb.ca.

Another option for accessing course material, submitting class assignments, or chatting with me, is through a Microsoft Teams site that I created for the students who are quarantined.  Here is the link:
