All assignments are suggestions to maintain your reading and writing skills while at home.

I would challenge you to read 30 minutes daily, while completing two writing choices a week.

You may read a novel, website, or newspaper. If you do not have a novel, E-Books are available through NB Public Libraries with a library card here.  If you do not have a library card, you can apply for one here.)

I have attached a writing choice board in documents that you may use to respond to your reading or continue your creative writing skills.  You should aim for two writing choices a week. Suggestions are given on the choice board.

I can’t wait to see what you are reading and writing! Contact me to share your work or ask questions at tanya.frost@nbed.nb.ca

Hi everyone!

It has been three weeks of sheltering at home.  I really miss all of you!  I have often wondered how and what you are doing to pass the time as we all adjust to this strange new world of ours.  I was so glad to see so many of you participate in Virtual Spirit Week. It really made me miss your smiling faces, jokes, dance moves and stories all the more.

One goal this week is to check-in and maintain connections. I am so very glad that each student will receive a phone call from a teacher!  You may contact me on Facebook or through my teacher page under Learning from Home. My email is Tanya.frost@nbed.nb.ca   All DLMS teachers’ emails are available under staff on the school’s website.

Our second goal to provide some activities to enhance your learning. Each of your subject teachers will post on his/her teacher page with a weekly assignment for your class. This assignment may have a link to the document tab or web links tab for additional support.

My assignments for English will be posted every Monday by 10:00 a.m.   I will have suggestions for maintaining French skills, too.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Mrs. Frost

P.S.  Stay home, wash your hands often, don’t touch your face, and social distance.

Hi! I am back from Quebec and ready to mark persuasive essays! Unfortunately, some still haven't finished.  They must be passed in on Monday morning. Starting Monday, essays that will then be 5 days late, will lose 15 marks per day until finished. You can always email me the essay.

7F English

Just another reminder that your project is finally due on Tuesday.  Due to activities and the pending storm, we may not be presenting them until after March Break.  Over the last month, we have practiced the Book-in-a-Box project with our class novel, viewed past students' projects and looked at mine.  Goal: to discuss your novel in enough detail to show comprehension.

In case you are home without your rubric, remember that first of all you just need to choose five objects that represent your book. You need to write a paragraph that explains how each object relates to the book with specific examples from the book.  This means you need five objects and five paragraphs.  Also, decorate a container representing characters, quotes and/or themes of the book.  Finally, do a Venn diagram comparing/contrasting yourself to the main character.   You are NOT responsible for conflict or questions as we discussed in class.

If you find this helpful, text a classmate!     See the attached document with my explanation of my novel.

Wednesday is the day to assembly your photo- essay on Bristol board in class. Bring Bristol- board and all supplies. We can print off b&w pics. at school.

Explanation of Project

Our Language Arts classes have been invited to participate in the Spotlight on Indigenous People Project at the upcoming Pow Wow, Mawi’omi, at James M. Hill Friday, Feb. 16. Student projects will be displayed as we celebrate our Indigenous Peoples’ contributions to society.

Last week, students began a research based literacy project in which they have chosen an Indigenous person who is a positive role model.  This person may also be from student’s family or community.  Students spent three days in the lab researching basic information on this person's life- family, career, and achievements.  They also collected pictures and quotes/articles.   This is a min-project intended to be completed in class.

This photo essay is to be placed on Bristol board. (Balance of pictures and information.) Students have been given the deadline to bring in all their materials for Wednesday, Feb. 14.  Each student also received a project guideline during their research time. Projects will be assembled in class on Wednesday.  Should they need to print off pictures at school, we can do so in black and white. If they want colored photos, borders, background paper, etc. to jazz up the board, students should bring it in.

Once completed, we will view and learn from each other’s projects. There will NOT be a presentation to the class. Evaluating each other’s projects will provide a more interactive learning experience.

We are finally wrapping up our memoir unit this Friday.  For the past two weeks, students have been revising their work for  word choice, organization, sentence fluency and ideas.  I hope you finished revising today so we can peer edit tomorrow.  Use my teacher notes on your memoir rubric to guide your revisions. Remember to use all the reference sheets that we used in class.

Reminder to students that tomorrow is individual picture day and class picture day.

Students are asked to bring in cardboard of all sorts to build their trebochets.  They will compete in a competition Friday afternoon.  This event is to build team spirit and to promote the Pumpkin Fling this coming Saturday afternoon that is sponsored by the NB Engineering Association.  They are raising money for school breakfast programs.  Each school will be competing for furthest fling and most team spirit.  Looking for as many students to participate in the team spirit category as possible.
