We have completed our first week of middle school!   I look forward to teaching and learning from such wonderful students. Students have received compostion books that they are probably personalizing this weekend. ( Don't worry if you forgot, you have all month to customize it.) These books are precious because they will contain students' ideas as well as responses to classroom instruction.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!  Be observant so you can write about your adventures.

Check out  LUMINATE tonight. Amazing science, technology nd engineering science hands on exhibits in our gym from 6-7:30PM.

Grade seven and eight students have been working well revising their Remembrance Day stories.  All drafts are to be passed in tomorrow so I can assess this week's mini-lessons.

Presently students have been exploring the themes of Remembrance Day. They have been reading essays, articles, and poems and listening to songs along the theme of Remembrance.  Most of the work is done in class.  They could be doing more research at home or the public library. Some very informative sites are  www.warmuseum.ca   and   http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/

Essays by past winners can be read at www.legion.ca/ under the youth heading.

A rough draft should be finished for Friday. At this time, we will begin revisions.  Next week we will have teacher and peer conferences.

Final copy due November 4.

Reading 25 minutes a night has been the expectation as they have been doing responses in class to prove that they were thinking as they were reading! :)

Our trip to Camp Sheldrake will be held on Tuesday, June 21.

Language Arts- 7F

Students need to finish their working draft of work started in class- asking a friend for a favor.  They all received their inital work and assignment example. Keep reading 30 minutes as you will present your novel the third week in June! Stay tuned. Info coming home on Tuesday.

Language Arts 6V-  Students will be doing a reading assessment tomorrow during class time.  We will discuss the genre of biography next. Keep reading.
