La vie est belle.

Hi everyone,

I hope that you are enjoying visiting with your family bubble.  While we are still learning from home, I would like you to enjoy reading the newest article, “The First Inuit Novel”. This week I am posting your reading assignment on my teacher page as well as on the website, currents4kids.com   Then your parents can see your assignment, too! :0

Assignment OneRead “The First Inuit Novel”.  currents4Kids.com

Assignment Two:  Do the “On-the-lines” and “Between-the-lines” online quizzes. Class average was 80% last week. Keep up the great work!  I like going back and checking my answers to make sure that I understood the question.

Assignment Three: Under STUDENT RESPONSE, above the story, you will see a choice of responses and a response text box. Choose from one of the listed choices, and write a short paragraph in response.    Enter your response in the space and submit by clicking on REVIEW.  If you do not have time to finish, click on DRAFT and finish it later.  I may send it back to you to make punctuation changes if needed. J

HOW TO AVOID LOSING YOUR WORK: Usually when typing on a website, I type it up in a Word document first. I run spell check and then paste it into the website. When using Word, my work is automatically saved, so I do not lose it.

EXTRA OPPORTUNITY FOR LEARNING: Click on FIND OUT MORE. There are many connections to discover.

NEW attached writing choice board.

Have a great week! Please, do not hesitate to contact me if you have a question or concern.

Hi,

I am hearing great feedback from students!  Although it says "student responses are disabled" at the end of the story, IT WORKS.

You go to the top of the story and choose the Respond to This Story link.

Hope this helps,

Mrs. Frost

This week I would like you to try this interactive reading site that is linked above.  This will allow our class to read articles, chat about our responses and provide you with quick feedback on comprehension! By answering in the student response section, we can blog together about the topic. The comments submitted will only be seen by our class.

In order to participate, you will need your own login/password to get started. Since my class is small and AMAZING; I will either call you or email you your password. The assignment is on our class page, Mrs. Frost's English class, when you log on to the site.

Please, contact me if you have any comments or questions at tanya.frost@nbed.nb.ca

Enjoy your new family bubble and outdoor parks! Playgrounds are still closed.  Remember to be safe: social distance, cover cough with sleeve and wash hands frequently.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Mrs. Frost

 Hi everyone,

I hope this finds you well. I hope that our staff video let you know how much we care for you.

I have so enjoyed your written work and letters. Keep them coming!

Keep reading 30 minutes a day.  I didn’t like Charlie Wilcox’s War as well as I thought, so I am now currently reading Boy by Roald Dahl.  I am sure that some of you remember, the “Great Mouse Plot”!

Choose writing prompts from new attached writing choice board. If there was still a prompt from the other board that you preferred, feel free to choose from it.

I cannot wait to see what you are reading and writing this week! Contact me to share your work and/or ask questions at tanya.frost@nbed.nb.ca

French PIF students,

Allo! Vous me manquez! (I miss you all!)

Now that you are getting used to learning from home, you may want to work on your French.  First of all, I suggest that you use Duolingo.com to keep up your speaking and listening skills. Many of you used this last year with success.

Secondly, you can watch one of your favorite shows on Netflix in French. CBC has many French kids shows, too. I would start with a show that you are very familiar with so you understand what is happening. To begin, you may listen to it in French audio and French subtitles to hear the beautiful language and see the words. Next, I suggest that you try this for a short while so as not to be frustrated. Maybe 10-15 minutes, and then increase over time.  Watch that segment a few times. You do not need to understand every word, to understand. Use the visual cues and tone of the characters. Listening to French can be difficult in this context, but do not give up. It does get easier with practice. It worked for me when studying French!

Thirdly, if you want to increase your learning, try to keep a list of new words (2-5) each time that you watch a show.

I cannot wait to see what you are watching and learning this week! Contact me if you want to discuss your work and/or ask questions at tanya.frost@nbed.nb.ca

Bonne semaine! Soyez sauf!  Have a great week! Stay safe!

I hope that everyone had a Happy Easter!  I have so enjoyed your written work and letters. Keep them coming!

Keep reading 30 minutes a day. Complete two writing choices from the attached writing choice board. Directions are on the attachment.

You may read a novel, website, or newspaper. If you do not have a novel, E-Books are available through NB Public Libraries with a library card here.  If you do not have a library card, you can apply for one here.)

#Do What You Can

May this help inspire you. When you can't do what you do, do what you can. I have a full explanation and challenge under the note "Looking for inspiration? Try this! #Do What You Can"

Posted: April 6, 2020

Good afternoon,

We are beginning our fourth week of sheltering at home.  I have a list of things that I would like to learn about, projects that I have put off until I have some free time and a part-time job checking in on family and friends through calls, SKYPE and ZOOM. Honestly, just because I have all kinds of time, does not mean I feel inspired all the time. Some days I am “waiting for inspiration to hit me.”  (See image gallery)

One thing that I came across that has inspired me is Bon Jovi’s request to help him write a song. Have you seen it?  #Do What You Can   He is wondering how people are really coping during these difficult times, and encouraging them to write about their thoughts and feelings.  It seems like an appropriate journal entry for wellness or writing activity for English!

As he explains in his 3-minute video, you can send in your poetry, and he might choose to sing it live. Or you can play it with him thanks to technology.  Check out some examples out on YouTube for inspiration. I linked it under my webpages.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7RomndOj1w

I hope this song inspires you to express your feelings in writing or song or even art. I challenge you to write a verse for English, or at the very least write a journal entry about how our current situation is affecting your thoughts, daily life, and altered plans. When you are done, please forward it to my email or message me on Facebook.

I will post mine to my teacher page, too.  I would love to write with my teenage heartthrob!

Can’t wait to see what you come up with,

Mrs. Frost
