PIF students are reading, reviewing, and recording what they learn.  A Journal entry page has been added to your weeklong assignment.  Instructions are in the previous post(below). We will have a Team chat Thursday and Friday this week about it.

6/7 Stewart.  Your posted reading assignment is due tomorrow.  Continue working on your story. The draft should be complete.  I will post my favorite poem of all time-Sour Patch Kids.  This poem has wonderful imagery and strong verbs. Read it a few times and then I would like you to highlight the vivid language. As well, see if you can find examples of figurative language- similes, metaphors, alliteration and onomatopoeia.  I will attach some examples in TEAMS.

Once you have played with the language, go back, and look at your story. Are there examples of figurative language? Can you try to add a few?  Use a colored pen when revising.

I hope this finds you well.  I cannot believe that this is the final week of “Learning from Home”.  I enjoyed our class meeting last Friday, chatting about our books and upcoming project! We will have our last class meeting this Friday at 11:00 a.m.  Please, spread the word.

This week there is a graphic organizer posted on Teams to help organize your thoughts added to the assignment. The due date is September.  As we discussed, it may be easier to choose things that represent your life during Covid-10 as life happens.  Anything that you notice can be jotted down and/or listed. This is NOT a detailed written assignment.

I also added one of my favourite poetry assignments with which you can have fun. If you want me to see your parody of “This Is Just to Say” poem, send it in this week. Mine involves candy and, you guessed it, an apology.

Even though this is the final week of officially Learning from Home, DLMS teachers’ pages are full of great ideas. Remember that you may check out any teacher’s assignments, and try them should you want more learning opportunities over the summer.  Choose whatever interests or challenges you. More exciting, is your world is a world to explore this summer. The best kind of learning is doing activities with your family- playing games, cooking together, going on hikes, doing projects and so on.   I hope that you continue to take every opportunity to learn with your family and friends this summer.

In the attachment below, you can read the rationale and overview of an exciting project that we will begin now and finish in September.  Over the summer, we invite you to start collecting information, photos and memories of your life with the Covid-19 pandemic, and your life despite the Covid-19 pandemic.To get a head start, start working on Part 1 and 2 during these final two weeks of Learning From Home.

Part 1: I am going to have you begin reading some articles from "Currents4Kids". (Some of you may have already completed some of these.) The articles are:

 Fighting A New Virus, Feb 7              How to Squash a Pandemic, March 20

 Suds Up, March 2                                Keep Your Distance, April 2

 Leading By Example, April 10     You may continue to do the quizzes if you like.

Read at least two of the articles.

 Part 2:  Keep a journal/list and reflect on how Covid-19 has affected you, your life, society, music, commercials, etc.   Note interesting things that represent the times that we live in.

The project information is on my Teams assignments, so you may access it there, and record your thoughts.

1.      You should see an invitation to your Team, which will have a link. You click to go to the Team. There is a Welcome message in Posts, which you can read, and you can look in notebook where we have placed some background information for you to read. 

2.      There is a short assignment under assignment to complete for Friday.

3.      In your email, you will also find an invitation to an online class meeting which will be Friday at 11:00a.m. 

Please let me know as soon as possible if you are not able to get to your email, cannot remember your password, or do not have an invitation to the class meeting (later this week).

Remember we as teachers are all learning this with you and we will be making changes and asking you to provide feedback about how things are working for you.
